If you follow me on the instagram you already have seen it but here's all the images I created during the inktober month. It was great way to get back into the habit of drawing. I miss those days where I had all the time I want for myself, now the baby have control over everything and its hard to find the time to draw. However I'm also enjoying this new life routine. Gotta enjoy it while I can!!
Hey everyone, I'm sorry I haven't been making much arts lately. Life have been very hectic and I've been very tired both physically and mentally to make art or do anything. To be successful I do believe it's important to keep creating arts. It doesn't have to be even good, just doodle at least once a day but I couldn't even do that. Felt pretty bad. But I finally got energy to do few personal projects that has been piled up on my desk and also update few things on the website as well. Within couple weeks my life is going to be completely different and I probably won't have any time to do personal stuff for a while. I do update more frequently on my Instagram so please check that out if you're curiouse.
Hey everyone, my illustration will be shown at the gallery QUIET NOISE art and break for their "Pierre Records" group show in Japan. (You can read more about the detail on their website. It's in Japanese.) Its happening between May 17 - June 5 (Closed on Tuesday), open from 11:00 - 20:00. Free admission.
Reception is happening at May 20th, 11:00 - 20:00. Unfortunately I can't be there in person, but it'll be awesome if you can check them out for me.
Hi there, it's been a while. Due to some big changes in life that are involving moving, getting new thing, and changing a job I have been super busy and exhausted lately. Along with lots of exciting news, I finally got a new iPhone. My old one was so old that it couldn't even support apps like instagram so I needed to get a new one. Shocked about how different it was after the update. I did not know that you were able to like people's comments and do cool thing like my story. WOW!
I also did a illustration for Kanika Lawton's poetry 'Skin Reel'. Please check them out on Ricepaper Magazine website. As a person who grew up in Japan for most of her teenage year, I really related to this poetry. I remember how important it was to have pale skin and putting on the sunscreen every 30 minute in the summer. I still put on sunscreen in the summer, but not for the same reason. I don't really see the importance in having a pale skin or having beautifully tanned skin. I'm comfortable in my own skin and that's what I tried to depict in my illustration. I think it came out nicely.
Original concepts for the poem.
Music is very important in creation. It helps set a right mood to draw certain project or even inspire you to create one. These are something I created for fun.
Ever since I discover Asgeir I've been his huge fan. I even played this song on my wedding because we both thought it really matched our view towards life. Also I'm quarter Icelandic so I always have soft spot for Icelandic musician.
This is really beautiful love song. Sort of bitter sweet. I especially love the sentence "I'd rather be dreaming of someone than living alone."
My husband introduce me to the band White Lies and I think this song is really nice to listen when you're drawing. Also the lyrics are actually quite disturbing.
The other songs on the list.
Art-j - Breeze block
Foster the People - Pumped up Kicks
Chemical Brothers - Wide Open
Let me know if you know other bands I might be interested in! Thanks.
Since it's October I'm participating in inktober thing. Here's what I got so far! Maybe at the end I can make this into one zine. It's been a while since I made zine.
This inktober thing is more work than I thought because I'm very bad at keeping things up. Drawing everyday is hard, but I'm hoping to make this into a habit :)
You can see my inktober process on my instagram page as well so feel free to follow and like!
Since 2010 I have been summarizing my illustrations for each year. It's actually really fun. I love doing it, I love looking at it after and I love it when other artists does it too. It's nice to see your style changes through out time. Mostly better, sometime not so much.
2010 was year of pattern and bright color. Since I was taking some digital classes I also did a lot of digital art. All of these illustrations are cool because I could never draw like this anymore, it almost feels like illustrations from different artist. My personal favorite is the one from November.
I feel like 2011 is the year I discovered my style. This is the year I created my very first picture book the Killing Monster(April) and I was doing a series called Banana Girls (August). It was a fun year.
The year of Little Me. Little Me was a series I did for my grad project at Emily Carr University. The inspiration came to me when I saw Kiya Kiya by Akino Kondoh. I will talk about this project some other time because they really are special for my life.
Overall I think my stuff is getting better?
When I'm drawing I like to watch movies or listen to things on youtube. Usually it's documentary (thank you Netflix!), music videos, movies I have seen before or TED talks. A lot of TED talks. Seriously guys, TED talks are amazing. I get inspired from all the wonderful speakers and sometime it makes me cry because I get filled with these amazing emotions. Here are some of my favorite ones. Its funny, encouraging and really mind blowing.
For past month I have been thinking about getting a blog so I can talk about my process, life and movies I've been obsessed with..... I thought about using instagram for that but it's sooo painful to type things on phone. I did some research and discovered that you can actually make a blog using square space! Super convinient. I have to say I'm not really good with words so I'm not quite sure how long I will keep this up but let's just give it a shot.
Lately I was visiting the Netherlands to finish off a mural for a restaurant with my husband. It's been ages since I made anything with oil paint and worked on something that big so it was really fun! We worked on it for whole month and for me that's super long. I'm usually a quick worker and my illustrations takes about 3~5 hour to finish (not including the concept and sketching part though) so it was more hard on me mentally. At some point it really felt like it'll never end but we did it and I'm back in Vancouver. It's good to be home.
